Center of Research Excellence in Complex Materials (CORE-CM) is focused on materials for energy applications. The worlds pending transition from a fossil-fuel based economy to one based on renewable energy is the biggest scientific challenge facing the world; advances in photovoltaics, thermoelectrics, batteries, fuel cells, lighting, etc., are all needed. These advances all inherently rely on a sustained interdisciplinary effort to address complex materials challenges. It is critical for MSU to lead in the innovation of energy materials and the CORE-CM supports building infrastructure, seminar series and efforts to build teams to launch new research efforts.
